SJVN Limited has announced its commitment to significant renewable energy projects in Maharashtra, following the signing of two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) that entail a combined investment of ?48,000 crore. These initiatives include a 505 MW floating solar project and 8,100 MW of pumped hydro projects across five distinct locations.
The first MoU, signed by Sushil Sharma, Chairman and Managing Director of SJVN, and Deepak Kapoor, Additional Chief Secretary of the Water Resources Department, enables SJVN to conduct surveys, investigations, and prepare the detailed project reports (DPR) for five pumped hydro projects. These projects, with capacities of 800 MW (Kolmondapada), 1,500 MW (Sidgarh), 2,000 MW (Chornai), 1,800 MW (Baitarni), and 2,000 MW (Jalvara), are set to play a crucial role in enhancing Maharashtras energy landscape.
The second MoU, signed between Sharma and Dr. P Anbalagan, Chairman and Managing Director of Maharashtra’s electricity utility, MAHAGENCO, focuses on the development of a 505 MW floating solar project at the Lower Wardha Dam. This project will be executed in two phases, with the initial phase consisting of 100 MW.
According to an SJVN press release, these projects are expected to generate approximately 8,400 direct and indirect job opportunities while also supporting eco-tourism and skill development initiatives in the region. The announcement of these MoUs has sparked enthusiasm in the market, highlighting SJVN’s strategic expansion into the renewable energy sector. |
