Work Detail Tata Electronics, a subsidiary of Tata Sons, has successfully finalized a technology transfer agreement with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) of Taiwan, as announced by the Tata group in a statement. Under this definitive agreement, PSMC will provide design and construction support for a greenfield semiconductor fabrication plant (Fab) in Dholera, Gujarat. The partnership includes licensing a wide array of technologies and offering engineering support to ensure the effective transfer of these licensed technologies to the new facility. With a total investment of up to ?91,000 crore, the Fab is expected to create over 20,000 direct and indirect skilled jobs. N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are pleased to partner with PSMC, whose technology and expertise will significantly accelerate our roadmap to pioneer semiconductor manufacturing in India. This collaboration is a key milestone, and I am confident that our comprehensive technology partnership with PSMC will pave the way for innovation, drive growth, and strengthen the global semiconductor supply chain.” Dr. Frank Huang, Chairman of Powerchip Group and CEO of PSMC, also shared his excitement about the initiative, remarking, “We are excited to collaborate with Tata Electronics on this pioneering initiative to establish India’s first semiconductor Fab in Gujarat. This partnership represents a win-win situation, positioning PSMC and the Taiwanese ecosystem to gain a significant first-mover advantage in the rapidly expanding Indian market while helping India achieve self-reliance in semiconductor manufacturing.” The new Fab will have a manufacturing capacity of up to 50,000 wafers per month and will incorporate next-generation factory automation capabilities that utilize data analytics and machine learning to achieve industry-leading efficiency. It will produce chips for a variety of applications, including power management ICs, display drivers, microcontrollers (MCUs), and high-performance computing logic, addressing the increasing demand in sectors such as AI, automotive, computing, data storage, and wireless communication. To ensure the facility meets global standards of quality, safety, and sustainability, Tata Electronics has already engaged two esteemed design firms from Taiwan for the project.
