The Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) has indefinitely halted work on the extension of Metro Line 1C, which runs between Badi Chaupar and Transport Nagar, as per well-placed sources.
A senior JMRC official confirmed that the decision was made following directives from the state government. “We were instructed to slow down the expansion of Metro Line 1C, so the project has been stopped. However, the reasons behind this instruction remain unclear,” said the official, who wished to remain anonymous.
Efforts to reach Urban Development and Housing Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra and department secretary Vaibhav Galriya for comments were unsuccessful. Sources within JMRC speculated that the slowdown could be attributed to two primary reasons: the governments desire to potentially alter the alignment of the extended route based on the proposed satellite bus terminus at Transport Nagar and the current availability of funds.
“The planned metro station at Transport Nagar is situated very close to the satellite bus terminal. However, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has yet to finalize a land parcel for this terminal. The government may reassess the alignment once the land is secured,” explained a JMRC official.
In 2022, the then Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot sanctioned ?993.51 crore for the construction of Line 1C of Jaipur Metro. “It seems the government prefers to hold off on utilizing the funds until the alignment is determined,” the official added.
Despite the halt on Line 1C, JMRC officials assured that the extension work for Line 1D, connecting Mansarovar to the 200-feet Bypass, is progressing as scheduled, with an expected completion by the end of 2025. |
