The H2 MEET Organizing Committee, led by Nam-hoon Kang, President of the Korea Automobile & Mobility Association, has revealed the ten finalists for the H2 Innovation Award ahead of the H2 MEET 2024 event, which will be held from September 25 to September 27 at KINTEX, Goyang City. Now in its fourth year, the H2 Innovation Award serves as a comprehensive platform for large enterprises, medium-sized companies, and startups in the hydrogen sector to showcase their cutting-edge technologies through presentations, exhibitions, and networking opportunities.
Categories and Finalists
The competition recognizes innovation across three categories:
Hydrogen Production – including technologies like electrolysis, carbon capture, and renewable energies.
Hydrogen Storage and Transportation – encompassing solutions for stations, tanks, pipelines, liquefaction/gasification, transport, and safety.
Hydrogen Utilization – involving hydrogen’s application in mobility, fuel cells, and industries such as steel and chemicals.
This year’s finalists include key players such as UtilityGlobal with their H2GenTM reactor in hydrogen production, Mt.H Control Valves for their high-pressure hydrogen flow control valves in the storage and transportation category, and Energyn with a tensile tester for hydrogen embrittlement evaluation in the utilization category. These innovations highlight the diverse advancements being made across the hydrogen value chain.
Award Presentation and Benefits
The final presentations took place on August 29, with the winners set to be announced on the opening day of H2 MEET 2024. Companies will compete for several prizes:
Grand Prize: One company will receive 10 million KRW and a trophy.
First Prizes: Three companies (one per category) will receive 5 million KRW and a trophy.
Second Prizes: Six companies (two per category) will be awarded certificates and a 2 million KRW discount on booth fees for the following year.
Additionally, winners will benefit from outdoor and floor advertising at the event, along with promotional materials throughout the venue. These awards are designed not only to recognize innovation but also to provide winners with enhanced visibility and business opportunities.
Past Achievements and Industry Recognition
Since its inception in 2021, the H2 Innovation Award has celebrated significant technological advancements. Notable past winners include POSCO Mobility Solution for its precision fuel cell separator technology in 2021 and Energyn for its high-pressure hydrogen vessel in 2022. The award has become a prestigious platform for companies to gain industry recognition and foster collaboration.
Driving Global Hydrogen Industry Growth
The H2 Innovation Award aligns with the growing global emphasis on carbon neutrality and hydrogen energy. According to an organizing committee spokesperson, the award is an essential platform for accelerating the growth of the domestic hydrogen industry, discovering groundbreaking technologies, and facilitating international business opportunities.
As part of the larger H2 MEET 2024 event, the H2 Innovation Award is set to coincide with H2WORLD, Korea’s first hydrogen-specific exhibition, as well as the K-Battery Show 2024 and HARFKO 2024. These events together aim to position South Korea as a leader in the global hydrogen economy.
H2 MEET 2024 will be hosted by key organizations such as the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association, H2KOREA, HyNet, and the Korea Energy Agency, further underscoring the critical role hydrogen energy plays in South Korea’s transition to a sustainable energy future. |
