The Gujarat government has approved a significant allocation of ?255.06 crore for road development projects in the civic bodies of Surat, Rajkot, and Gandhinagar under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced the decision on Monday.
Out of the total allocation, the Surat Municipal Corporation will receive ?181.50 crore for 579 projects, which encompass the widening of existing roads, construction of new roads, footpaths, cement concrete roads, and road carpeting. The Rajkot Municipal Corporation has been granted ?60.78 crore for 12 road projects, while the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation is allocated ?12.84 crore for road renovation work.
This funding reflects the state governments ongoing commitment to enhancing urban infrastructure. The Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana aims to support municipalities in both constructing new roads and repairing existing ones to improve connectivity and road safety.
Over the past four years, the state government has sanctioned a total of ?740.85 crore for 1,493 projects in Surat, ?168.94 crore for 29 projects in Rajkot, and ?57.68 crore for seven projects in Gandhinagar, bringing the total investment in urban road projects across these cities to ?961.47 crore.
This latest approval is expected to further accelerate urban infrastructure development across the state, ensuring better connectivity and improved road conditions for residents. |
