The Gujarat state government announced on Sunday that it has sanctioned Rs 668 crore for the construction of concrete roads in rural areas. The funds will be used to convert 1,020 kilometers of asphalt roads into concrete, covering 787 panchayat roads.
According to an official statement, asphalt roads often deteriorate due to water accumulation and heavy traffic. To address this issue, the government has allocated Rs 668.30 crore to construct 5.5-meter-wide concrete roads. In areas where concrete roads are not feasible, paver blocks will be installed.
The recent heavy rains and resulting waterlogging have caused extensive damage to roads across the state. The allocated funds will be used to strengthen the road infrastructure in village areas, the statement added. |
