More than 3,000 residents in the Ngaamba area of Kiu/Kalanzoni Ward in Makueni County now have access to clean water right at their doorsteps, thanks to a collaborative initiative between the County Government of Makueni and international organization Welt Hunger Hilfe (WHH). The project, part of a long-standing partnership, included the installation of solar power, a 100,000-litre masonry water tank, six smart-meter water kiosks, and an 11-kilometer distribution line to supply water from the Kwa Mwina borehole. The initiative targets six villages and three schools in the ward, providing much-needed water access to the local community. WHH, in agreement with the County Government, has been instrumental in extending water distribution from government-drilled boreholes as well as other high-yield water sources. This project marks the 20th initiative delivered under the partnership. At the handover ceremony on Thursday, County Executive Committee Member for Water John Kieti, Devolution counterpart Japheth Mang’oka, area MCA Justus Mwanzia, and WHH representatives celebrated the completion of the project, which is expected to greatly enhance water accessibility in the region. The County Government and WHH continue to work towards improving water connectivity in Makueni County, ensuring the community benefits from sustainable and reliable water sources. |
