Siemens Mobility has announced plans to construct America’s first high-speed-train factory. This $60 million investment will be based in the village of Horseheads – New York and it will comprise of 300000 sq Ft. It is a great achievement in the conception of high-speed rail service in the country, especially for the brightline west generally planned to construct the railway between Las Vegas and Southern California.

The plant will begin operations in 2026, with plans to produce the American Pioneer 220, a state-of-the-art high-speed train model. The American Pioneer 220 is capable of traveling at a speed of up to 330 km/h (205 mph) and will equipped with innovations aimed at enhancing the comfort of the trip, such as a club or a ‘bar car’, where the passengers can have snacks and drinks. These trains will prove to be a marked improvement in rail transport technology in the U. S. and place it on a higher pedestal with the high-speed rail technologies prevalent in Europe and Asia.
This is a strategic decision to locate the factory in Horseheads. According to Siemens, the region has a good industrial base and qualified personnel were readily available. Similarly, political support from local governments also had an influence in getting the project on track. The factory will be manned by between 200 and 300 employees, with many of them possibly residents of the region, thus an indication of employment and growth of the region’s economy. Organized workforce: In addition to offering competitive wages, Siemens Mobility has also partnered with the International Association of Machinists to guarantee unionization of the factory. This partnership demonstrates Siemens’ focus on creating reliable conditions and safe working conditions for its employees.
Significance
Upon completion, the factory will manufacture trainsets for Brightline West with plans to deliver 20 American Pioneer 220 trains by 2028. Brightline West, at the moment, is the only private high-speed rail system in the U. S. Their aim is to safely transport passengers between major cities in California and Nevada in record time and in style as opposed to car and air travel.
