Work Detail |
Mumbai is set for a major infrastructural overhaul in the coming months, with several key projects nearing completion. The citys transformation will be spearheaded by the launch of the Metro 3 underground line, a crucial development aimed at alleviating traffic congestion and easing the burden on the suburban rail network.
By the end of this year, Mumbai will see the opening of several significant infrastructure projects:
New Vashi Creek Bridge (September): The new six-lane bridge, adding three lanes on either side of the existing bridge, will increase the total capacity to 12 lanes, matching the Sion-Panvel Highway. This expansion is expected to eliminate traffic bottlenecks caused by the current narrow bridge.
Samruddhi Mahamarg (October): The 624-km stretch from Igatpuri to Nagpur will become operational, with the final 76 km of the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway nearing completion. This project will cut road travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur to just 8 hours.
Metro 3, Phase I (October): The first phase of the Metro 3 line will open between Aarey and BKC, featuring 10 stations: Aarey Colony, Seepz, MIDC, Marol Naka, T2 (international airport), Sahar Road, T1 (domestic airport), Santacruz, Vidyanagar, and BKC.
SCLR Extension (October): The extension of the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) will enhance east-west connectivity. The ongoing construction of a cable-stayed bridge will connect the extension to Vakola Junction on the Western Express Highway (WEH).
Full Coastal Road (December): The final phase of the Coastal Road project, connecting the northward arm to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, will ensure two-way, signal-free traffic between Marine Drive and T2 via Bandra.
Looking ahead to 2025, two major projects will reach completion:
New Vashi Creek Bridge, Full Opening (February): The south-bound bridge is expected to be completed by February 2025, with the new toll booth and administrative building already operational and road patchwork nearly finished.
Navi Mumbai International Airport (March): The airport will see the commissioning of ground-based navigation instruments to ensure safe aircraft landings.
These developments are set to significantly improve Mumbais infrastructure, enhancing connectivity and reducing travel times across the city and beyond. |
