WHA Utilities and Power Public Company Limited (WHAUP) has announced a major collaboration with S.P.M. Animal Feed Co., Ltd. and A.P.M. Agro Co., Ltd., two key players in Thailand’s integrated animal feed and livestock industries, to develop a 9-megawatt (MW) solar power project. This project, set to commence electricity supply by 2025, marks a significant step forward in clean energy adoption within the agricultural sector.
The partnership will see the installation of three solar power systems, including Solar Floating, Solar Farm, and Solar Car Park, spread across S.P.M. and A.P.M.’s facilities in Ratchaburi Province. With a total investment of 200 million baht, the project will feature:
Solar Floating System: A 3.51 MW floating solar array installed on water surfaces.
Solar Farm System: A ground-based solar farm with a 1.066 MW capacity.
Solar Farm and Solar Car Park: Combining solar installations on the ground and parking areas, delivering 4.395 MW of energy.
WHAUP’s Chief Executive Officer, Somkiat Mesanthasuwan, highlighted the significance of the project, stating, “This collaboration with S.P.M. and A.P.M. Agro underscores our commitment to sustainable energy solutions both inside and outside WHA industrial estates. By 2025, we will be delivering clean solar energy, reinforcing Thailand’s journey toward renewable energy and sustainability.”
The initiative aligns with WHAUP’s broader strategy of expanding its renewable energy portfolio, both within and beyond WHA’s industrial estates. After this deal, WHAUP’s accumulated electricity generation capacity has reached 932 MW, with 381 MW derived from solar power under Private Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) and government contracts.
Soraphol Nitikanchana, Managing Director of S.P.M. Animal Feed and A.P.M. Agro, emphasized the benefits of the partnership for their business operations. “This project will significantly reduce our energy consumption, helping us lower electricity costs by 20-30% across our factories in Ratchaburi Province. Over the contract’s duration, we expect savings of approximately 25 million baht per year while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions by more than 150,000 tons over 25 years.”
This renewable energy venture reflects the companies’ shared commitment to environmental sustainability and the adoption of clean energy technologies in the agricultural sector. Both S.P.M. and A.P.M. Agro adhere to international standards like GMP and ISO9001, with a strong focus on reducing their carbon footprint.
The project not only contributes to cost savings and sustainability but also strengthens WHAUP’s position as a leader in renewable energy solutions, supporting Thailand’s move toward greener industries and long-term energy efficiency. |
