Work Detail Reservoir Link Energy Bhd Signs MOU With MN Power Transmission To Explore Renewable Energy Projects Reservoir Link Energy Bhd (RLEB) has announced a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between its wholly owned subsidiary, Founder Energy Sdn Bhd (FESB), and MN Power Transmission Sdn Bhd (MNPTSB). The MOU sets the stage for collaboration in the renewable energy sector, including solar, biogas, and biomass projects throughout Malaysia and potentially other ASEAN countries. Under the MOU, FESB and MNPTSB will work together to explore, identify, and develop potential projects. The agreement emphasizes the exchange of information, proposal of specific actions, and the implementation of technical expertise to secure and undertake these projects. The MOU is effective for two years, expiring on September 11, 2026, with the option for extension by mutual agreement. Indonesia Approves Draft Regulation To Update National Energy Policy Indonesia’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, alongside all factions in Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), approved the Draft Government Regulation on National Energy Policy (RPP KEN). This new regulation will replace the existing Government Regulation Number 79 of 2014 concerning the National Energy Policy. The RPP KEN introduces several significant changes from its predecessor, expanding from six to seven chapters and increasing the number of articles from 33 to 93. Notably, 39 of these articles have undergone substantive changes, while four have been modified non-substantively, and 49 articles have been newly added. Clime Capital Invests in Upgrade Energy Philippines to Boost Solar Infrastructure Clime Capital, a fund manager focused on advancing the low-carbon economy, announced today a significant investment in Upgrade Energy Philippines (UGEP) through the South East Clean Energy Fund II (SEACEF II). The fund has the potential to invest up to USD 10 million in UGEP. This investment aims to accelerate the deployment of solar energy infrastructure in the Philippines. The funding will support both internal consumption projects for commercial and industrial clients and utility-scale solar projects intended to supply clean energy to the national grid. UGEP, a trailblazer in solar leasing projects for the commercial and industrial sectors in the Philippines, is on track to exceed 50 MWp of cumulative installed capacity by the end of the year. The company’s achievements include the construction of the largest rooftop solar installation in the country, which was inaugurated last year. Singapore And Indonesia Boost Low-Carbon Electricity Imports With New Licences And Approvals Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) has made significant strides in its commitment to low-carbon electricity imports by granting Conditional Licences for 2 gigawatts (GW) of imports and Conditional Approvals for an additional 1.4 GW. This development was announced at the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum in Jakarta. Five Indonesian-based projects have been awarded Conditional Licences, marking a critical step in importing low-carbon electricity to Singapore. The approved projects include: Pacific Medco Solar Energy Pte Ltd: 0.6 GW Adaro Solar International Pte Ltd: 0.4 GW EDP Renewables APAC: 0.4 GW Vanda RE Pte Ltd: 0.3 GW Keppel Energy Pte Ltd: 0.3 GW These companies, which received Conditional Approval in September 2023, are progressing through marine surveys and feasibility studies, aiming for commercial operations by 2028. Vanda RE Secures Conditional Licence for Major Solar and Battery Project to Power Singapore Vanda RE Pte Ltd, a joint venture majority-owned by Gurin Energy, has been awarded a Conditional Licence by Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA). The licence, granted during the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum last week, acknowledges the technical and commercial feasibility of Vanda RE’s large-scale solar and battery project, while meeting the regulatory requirements of both Indonesia and Singapore. The company had previously received Conditional Approval from the EMA in 2023. This milestone marks significant progress for Vanda RE, which recently entered into a major agreement with Trina Solar, a leading global solar panel manufacturer. The deal secures 1.2GW of advanced solar photovoltaic panels for the Vanda Solar & Battery Project. PLN And ESDM Launch New Electricity Installation Assistance Program In Banten PT PLN (Persero), in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), has launched the New Electricity Installation Assistance (BPBL) program in the Poris Gaga sub-district, Batu Ceper, Tangerang, Banten. The program was officially distributed marking a significant step in PLN’s commitment to supporting equitable energy access across Indonesia. The BPBL program, initiated by Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, aims to provide reliable electricity to underserved communities. The distribution of this program was warmly received by beneficiaries, including Nia, a local resident. Nia, who previously relied on her neighbors for electricity, expressed her gratitude for the new installation. Actis Invests in World’s Largest Integrated Renewable Energy and Storage Project in the Philippines Actis, a global leader in sustainable infrastructure investment, has formed a strategic partnership with Manila Electric Company (Meralco) and its subsidiary, Solar Philippines New Energy Corporation, to invest in the Terra Solar Project. Set to become the world’s largest integrated renewables and energy storage project, this initiative represents the largest foreign direct investment for a greenfield infrastructure project in the Philippines. The Terra Solar Project, strategically located on Luzon, the Philippines’ main island, approximately 100km from Manila, will combine 3.5GWp of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity with a 4.5GWh battery energy storage system (BESS). Spanning approximately 3,500 hectares, equivalent to the size of about 83,300 basketball courts, the project is supported by a 20-year power supply agreement (PSA) with Meralco, the country’s largest distribution utility. Vena Energy Granted EMA Conditional Approval to Export 400MW of Solar Power from Indonesia’s Riau Islands to Singapore Vena Energy, a leading green energy solutions provider in the Asia-Pacific region, in partnership with Shell Eastern Trading (Pte.) Ltd, announced that they have received Conditional Approval from the Energy Market Authority of Singapore (EMA) to export 400 megawatts (MW) of solar power from the Riau Islands, Indonesia, to Singapore. The Conditional Approval was granted today by EMA at the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum in Jakarta. This milestone comes after Vena Energy and Shell signed a collaboration agreement in August 2023 for the cross-border supply of renewable energy generated by Vena Energy’s proposed hybrid project. Indonesian Government Proposes New Schemes To Enhance Transmission Network Efficiency And Promote Clean Energy The Indonesian government has unveiled several new schemes under the Draft Law on New and Renewable Energy (RUU EBET), designed to accelerate the growth of clean energy and enhance the efficiency of transmission network usage. These proposed changes are expected to significantly impact the renewable energy sector and electricity distribution practices. One of the key proposals involves imposing new regulations on the use of transmission networks. Under the draft law, electricity generators from new and renewable sources are restricted from directly distributing their power to consumers within the PLN business area (wilus) or beyond. The MOA outlines a collaborative effort on the “Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic for Government Buildings Project,” also known as the RGB Project. This initiative is set to begin with the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on rooftops of NEDA Region IV-A facilities, with the broader goal of reducing electricity consumption across public buildings. Indonesia’s ACCESS Project Achieves Milestone With Inauguration Of Solar Power Plants In 22 Remote Villages The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), has celebrated a significant achievement with the inauguration of solar power plants in 22 remote villages across East Nusa Tenggara, West Sulawesi, South-East Sulawesi, and Central Kalimantan provinces. The ACCESS project, funded generously by KOICA, has successfully established off-grid solar power plants and provided extensive capacity-building for local operators. This initiative also focused on strengthening village-owned enterprises (BUMDesa) to ensure the effective operation and sustainability of these solar power plants. Indonesian Ministry Of Energy And UNDP Partner To Train Operators For Solar Power Plant Maintenance The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), through its Center for Human Resource Development for Electricity, New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation (PPSDM KEBTKE), has launched a Technical Training and Certification program for Solar Power Plant (PLTS) maintenance. Conducted in collaboration with UNDP ACCESS, the initiative aims to equip local operators with the necessary skills to maintain PLTS facilities according to competency standards. Susetyo Edi Nugraha, Head of PPSDM KEBTKE, emphasized that the program aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 and supports Indonesia’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2060. “This training provides access to renewable energy and supports both the SDGs and the country’s environmental goals,” Susetyo stated at the training’s opening ceremony in Jakarta.
