The National Strategic Public Company Yacimientos de Litio Bolivianos (YLB) has agreed with the Russian company to produce 14,000 tons of lithium carbonate per year in the Uyuni salt flat, using Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) technology.
The National Strategic Public Company Yacimientos de Litio Bolivianos (YLB) has announced the signing of a contract with the Russian company Uranium One Group to produce 14,000 tons of lithium carbonate per year in the Uyuni salt flat, using Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) technology.
The statement said that this is an investment of more than 970 million dollars for an industrial plant that will be located in the Llipi sector, in the area close to the YLB camp infrastructure, south of the Uyuni salt flat.
According to the president of the state-owned YLB, Omar Alarcón, “EDL technology will also allow us to reduce production times, without depending on weather conditions. That is, we can obtain raw material in hours, which currently takes months.”
For his part, the President of Bolivia, Luis Arce, said: “This is the first accidental association contract for the development of an EDL and lithium carbonation plant in the Uyuni salt flat, Potosí. In accordance with our Political Constitution of the State, this contract will be sent to our Plurinational Legislative Assembly for its corresponding treatment.”
According to YLB, the implementation of this plant, which will use EDL technology, "will be subject to rigorous analysis of production data, geological and environmental studies of raw water reservoirs, virgin brine, recharging capacity, lithium recovery and efficiency of all infrastructure involved." |
