Work Detail Trayer specialises in submersible distribution switchgear, essential for regions prone to flooding or severe weather. Siemens has agreed to acquire Trayer Engineering, a US-based company specialising in medium voltage secondary distribution switchgear, for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition is part of Siemens’ strategy to expand its grid modernisation product portfolio. Siemens smart infrastructure electrification and automation CEO Stephan May stated: “We see a significant growth opportunity in secondary power distribution, particularly in addressing the challenges posed by extreme weather conditions. “By combining forces, we will provide an end-to-end portfolio to our customers by unlocking resources and competencies to serve this growing demand. “Our digital offerings and Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, Electrification X, complements Trayer’s resilient solutions to enable utilities and municipalities to upgrade their distribution grids and drive grid efficiency for outdoor and below-ground applications.” Trayer specialises in submersible distribution switchgear, essential for regions prone to flooding or severe weather. This expertise complements Siemens’ strategy to enhance the resilience of North America’s distribution grids. Trayer Engineering will join Siemens’ electrification and automation business unit. It will continue to operate independently within Siemens, maintaining its brand as a Siemens business. The acquired technology complements Siemens’ existing offerings and supports the trend towards underground electrical networks. Trayer’s padmount switchgear, commonly used in a range of settings for safe and efficient electrical distribution, will now benefit from Siemens’ extensive market presence. Founded in 1962 as a family business, Trayer now employs 130 people. The completion of the acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals and is anticipated during the calendar year 2024. Trayer CEO John Trayer said: “By joining a 175-plus-years-old, established industry leader, Trayer sees accelerated growth, investment and employee opportunities. “All of the employees at Trayer look forward to growing together, as Trayer offers a truly comprehensive solution to utility and municipal customers to help them harden and expand their electrical infrastructure.” In August 2024, Oklo secured a preferred supplier agreement with Siemens Energy.
