Work Detail Memorandums of Understanding were signed by Turkey and Egypt during a visit to Ankara by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. President Sisi met with the President of the Republic of Turkey, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in Ankara on Wednesday, 4 September, as the two look to cooperate more closely on areas such as, amongst others, energy and the environment. Speaking during a televised press conference, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that Turkey wishes to improve their cooperation with Egypt on energy, namely in natural gas and nuclear power.In a released press statement, the Turkish Presidency stated that the Republic of Turkiye is looking to import liquefied natural gas from Egypt as part of its strategy to serve as a supply hub for Europe. "It also wants to restart freight shipping between the Turkish port of Mersin and Alexandria in Egypt/ they said. President El-Sisi stated: "Our discussions also emphasised the importance of facilitating intra-trade and expanding the scope of the free trade agreement between Egypt and Turkey with the aim of increasing trade to $15 billion in the coming years. "In addition to enhancing joint investments between the two countries and granting possible facilitations to the Turkish businessmen, in light of the distinct investment climate in Egypt that enabled them to increase the scope of their business, sell their products in Egypt, and export."
