The much-anticipated POWERGEN India 2024, co-located with Indian Utility Week and Bharat Electricity, commenced today at Yashobhoomi, IICC Dwarka in New Delhi. Running from September 4 to 6, the event gathers global energy leaders, policymakers, and industry experts to discuss collaborative solutions for a sustainable energy future in India’s Amrit Kaal era.
The opening session, “Explore, Collaborate, Access: Opportunities in Amrit Kaal Through Energy Transition,” featured prominent speakers including Shri Pralhad Joshi, Hon’ble Union Minister of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy & Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, and Shri P. K. Pujari, IAS (Retd.), Honorary Chairperson of the Governing Council for POWERGEN India and Indian Utility Week.
In his address, Shri Pralhad Joshi highlighted the event’s role as a catalyst for global collaboration on green energy transition. “This platform is not just to showcase India’s energy revolution, but it is a catalyst for global collaboration. We are here to discuss the critical mission of green energy transition,” Joshi said. He also noted India’s achievement as the 4th largest global player in renewable energy capacity and emphasized the government’s commitment, including a Rs. 7,453 crore outlay for offshore wind energy projects.
Shri P. K. Pujari echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the event’s role in fostering partnerships and collaboration. “The event provides a platform for global players to share expertise, exchange ideas, and explore new business opportunities,” Pujari stated. He also underscored that the energy transition involves transforming the entire energy ecosystem, not just replacing fossil fuels.
The first day featured several key sessions, including “Curtain Raiser – Hydrogen Horizons: Empowering India’s Energy Transition & Energy Independence,” moderated by Shri Nitin Khanna, Managing Director – Energy at Accenture in India. Dr. R.K. Malhotra, President of the Hydrogen Association of India, discussed the goal of producing 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030. Meanwhile, Mr. Rajat Seksaria, CEO of Green Hydrogen at Adani New Industries, elaborated on the company’s comprehensive approach to supply chain management. The session also covered grid stability, presented by Shri Som Shantanu, Asia Engineering Leader at GE Vernova.
Another significant session was the “Leadership Plenary: Charting the Energy Horizon – Exploring Collaborative Pathways for Sustainable Access in the Amrit Kaal Era,” where leaders explored strategies for sustainable energy access in India’s evolving energy market.
The “Industry Plenary: Steering India’s Energy Future” session addressed the rising power demand, which has increased by 8-9% annually over the past two years due to economic revival post-COVID. The Ministry of Power has developed a detailed action plan to address this growth.
With over 200 exhibitors, more than 120 expert speakers, and 8,000 professionals, POWERGEN India 2024, Indian Utility Week, and Bharat Electricity offer a premier platform for global energy stakeholders to explore unprecedented opportunities in India’s energy sector. The event is supported by key ministries, including the Ministry of Power, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, and Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, reflecting the Government of India’s strong commitment to energy transition.
The day concluded with the Bharat Electricity Awards, which recognized outstanding contributions to India’s energy sector, followed by a gala night and networking reception, offering further opportunities for collaboration among industry leaders. |
