The Grenada Utilities Regulatory Commission is seeking expressions of interest for 15.1 MW of solar power at the Maurice Bishop International Airport. The project could also include a 10.6 MW/21.2 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The deadline for submission of bids is September 20.
The Grenada Public Utilities Regulatory Commission is seeking expressions of interest from independent power producers for a 15.1 MW solar project at Maurice Bishop International Airport.
The project will consist of either a 15.1 MW solar plant or a 15.1 MW solar array with a 10.6 MW/21.2 MWh BESS. If built, the solar array will be spread across three sites at the airport and will be integrated into both the national grid and an airport microgrid to provide localized electricity during outages.
The developer will be responsible for the development and execution of the project, and will then operate and maintain the facility for 25 years. It will also sign an interconnection and power purchase agreement with Grenlec, according to the project details.
Potential promoters can submit expressions of interest and requests for information by email until 20 September.
Grenadas energy sector remains largely based on fossil fuels, with renewable energy penetration in the country at around 6%. The country has set a target of achieving 100% renewable energy in the electricity and transport sectors by 2030.
Figures from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) show that Granada had 4 MW of cumulative installed solar capacity at the end of 2023. |
