Trident Agro Farms Pvt Ltd and Thakur Infraprojects Pvt Ltd. have both submitted bids for a tender issued by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority. The project, valued at ?284.19 crore, involves establishing an advanced export-import and domestic agricultural commodity processing and storage facility on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis.
The facility, planned for a 27-acre site along Funde-Nhava Sheva Road, aims to enhance the shelf life and quality of agricultural produce, thereby increasing both domestic and international exports. It will offer a range of services including processing, sorting, packing, and laboratory facilities to ensure compliance with food safety and trade regulations. The facility is designed to handle agricultural commodities from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and other regions.
Key features of the facility will include cold storage, pre-cooling, frozen storage, and dry warehouses, tailored for both export and import operations. The facility is expected to manage between 0.8 million metric tonnes (MMT) and 1.2 MMT of cargo over its 30-year concession period, with a construction phase of 1.5 years followed by full operations starting in 2026.
The project will not require the private developer to pay royalty for the first three years, covering the construction period. Beyond this, the developer will pay a fixed royalty plus a premium per square meter, with a 2% annual escalation.
This initiative aligns with India’s goal to boost its agricultural exports, which currently account for only 2.4% of global agricultural trade. By improving infrastructure and processing capabilities, the facility aims to support farmers and exporters, enhance product quality, and reduce wastage.
The new facility is expected to significantly impact operational efficiency, potentially reducing losses by up to 70% and saving approximately ?204 crore in the first year. It will also address infrastructure gaps and contribute to India’s broader goal of increasing agricultural exports to $100 billion by 2035, as outlined in the Agriculture Export Policy. |
