To boost performance, support sector growth, and enhance the safety, reliability, and sustainability of Oman’s electricity transmission network, Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) has successfully completed construction and energization of the 132/33 kV Al Jawabi Grid Station. The project also includes the addition of 132 kV overhead transmission lines, spanning 30 kilometers between the Jalan Bani Bu Ali and Al Jawabi Grid Stations.
This project, completed over 18 months with an investment exceeding RO 11.5 million, achieved more than 1.3 million safe work hours.
Key components of the project include 132 kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) with two feeders for 132 kV overhead transmission lines and two feeders for transformers with a capacity of 125 MVA.
Additionally, the project features two transformers, each with a capacity of 125 MVA at 132/33 kV, 33 kV GIS, control and protection panels at 132 and 33 kV, SCADA systems, and advanced communication and monitoring systems for the Grid Stations.
Eng. Masoud bin Salam Al Riyami, Chief Operations Officer, emphasized the company’s ongoing efforts to expand and improve the network’s reliability, safety, and sustainability. He also highlighted OETC’s dedication to launching critical projects across the Sultanate to optimize the electricity transmission network using smart solutions that effectively respond to growing demand.
Al Riyami noted, “This Grid Station is vital in meeting the region’s increasing electricity demand, with peak demand reaching approximately 132 MW in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate in June 2023, of which 92 MW will be managed by Al Jawabi GS. This reflects the country’s ongoing development and the growing need for sectoral support. Our mission is to address these needs through strategic projects that ensure a reliable and sustainable flow of energy across the Sultanate’s governorates.” |
