Work Detail Metronet has started the first test train on Morley – Ellenbrook line, that will connect north-eastern suburbs of Perth to train services, offering transport options to the airport and broader train network. Before passenger services commence, a rigorous testing programme will be undertaken to ensure all infrastructure and systems are tested for safety and comfort. The testing will take place over a three-week period and is geared towards ensuring that the Morley-Ellenbrook line is operating efficiently, and trains will run safely and smoothly. The Morley – Ellenbrook line starts at Bayswater station on the Midland Line, crossing in the centre of Tonkin Highway, through land north of Marshall Road, along the western side of Drumpellier Drive and ends in Ellenbrook, south of The Parkway. The project will deliver five new stations, with Ellenbrook and Ballajura stations already complete, two road bridges, one rail bridge, three pedestrian underpasses, two viaducts and one portal. Stations will be built in Morley, Noranda, Ballajura (formerly Malaga), Whiteman Park, and Ellenbrook. Bayswater station will be rebuilt, and a future station is planned at Bennett Springs East. Ellenbrook station has achieved a 6 Star Green Star – Railway Stations v1.1 certification, making it the highest rated under this tool. The rating is equivalent to world leadership in sustainable design and construction. Project Sustainability Lead Virginia Castellano acknowledged the efforts of the team in achieving the rating. “This outstanding achievement demonstrates we are delivering world-leading sustainable transport infrastructure right here in Western Australia. It is a testament to the efforts of everyone involved, and it is through team collaboration that we have set a new standard for sustainability excellence in Australia,” Virginia Castellano said. When passenger services commence in late 2024 it will be a 30-minute journey from Ellenbrook to Perth, a 25-minute journey from Whiteman Park to Perth, a 21-minute journey from Ballajura to Perth, an 18 -minute journey from Noranda to Perth, and a 15-minute journey from Morley to Perth. Timetables for train services and the supporting bus network for surrounding suburbs will be released later this year, prior to the commencement of passenger services. The new line is part of Metronet development programme covering the construction of 72 km of rail lines and 23 stations, changing the mobility in and around Perth. In July, Metronet has inaugurated the 14.5 km extension of Yanchep line connecting Perth CBD and its northern suburbs.
