Work Detail |
Mayor Sergio Barenghi formally announced on Thursday the opening of the tender to move forward with the fourth phase of the Sports Center, which will be built with municipal funds.
The project consists of two main works: on the one hand, a reinforced concrete structure to create an enclosure in the western sector of the gymnasium; and, on the other, a metal structure consisting of some tensioners to hold the roof, which will be completed in the fifth stage. Thus, the estimated investment will be around $580 million.
"We want to continue this work, which has been unfinished for 20 years and it is not good for us that people from other cities come to visit us and see this in a state of neglect," said Barenghi.
On the other hand, the mayor pointed out that "there are other aspects besides the sports issue that motivate the completion of this work."
"This sports centre would also allow for the organisation of large-scale social events, such as the graduation ball. Bragado does not have a place today to accommodate a large number of people in case of rain. And, hopefully, it will not happen, our city does not have an evacuation centre in case of a catastrophe," he stressed.
"For all these reasons, we have made the decision to carry out this project. I want to clarify that we are doing it with municipal resources," insisted Barenghi.
For his part, Juan Manuel Barenghi, the municipalitys Secretary of Finance, stated: "This has already been published in the Official Gazette and we will have the opening of the envelopes in mid-September. It is very important to achieve this progress, which for many was unrealizable."
Finally, Juan Manuel Santiago, Secretary of Public Works, said: "This political decision by the mayor allows us to give relevance to works that have been left behind, but for which significant investments have been made in previous administrations."
