According to businessmen, this contribution to public works "does not move the needle" for the construction sector, which has been in free fall in Mendoza in the last 8 months

Construction entrepreneurs in Mendoza are looking ahead to new tenders that will take place in the latter part of the year, looking ahead to 2025, for public works projects in the province and municipalities, after eight months of recession. Although there is some movement in the construction of hotels and buildings, they have not yet materialized.
The Mendoza government announced that it will have a budget of $15 billion, which could be increased if revenues improve, to finance public works to be carried out in the municipalities. Although this disbursement will allow progress on new projects, "it does not move the needle," said sources in the sector. With this amount, three schools could be built, they said.
According to the norm, up to 75% of the total value of the projects to be executed may be financed. The assistance that the provincial Executive will provide may be in the form of Non-Reimbursable Contributions (ANR) and/or loans.
According to the sources consulted, with this contribution three schools could be built, which is reasonable, but the drop in activity was so great that it is not enough to compensate for the loss of flow for construction companies that work on national and provincial tenders.
The private sector is moving but is not able to materialize in the start of new works
José Saldaña, owner of a construction materials company, said that the construction sector began to recover, "obviously slowly, after April 1, since the first quarter was very bad. Today we see that it has begun to recover. When we see that the blue dollar jumps a bit, we see that people begin to buy construction materials."
However, the activity that can be seen in the building yards and hypermarkets does not translate into the completion of these projects.
"The fact that there is an outflow of construction materials is a good sign. We are not seeing it yet. There are good expectations, especially for the new tenders for 2025. It was a very tough year, where we could only continue working with the province, but the national ones were paralyzed," acknowledged the head of the Chamber of Independent Construction Companies of Mendoza (CECIM), Dalmiro Barbeito.
Marcelo Bargazzi, another of the leaders of the construction industry, stressed that there are works in the private sector, but not of great magnitude, and they are waiting for the revival next year.
