Work Detail Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL), India’s largest private transmission and distribution company and a key entity within the Adani Group, has announced the acquisition of the Khavda Phase IV Part-A transmission project. This acquisition follows the receipt of a letter of intent (LOI) from REC Power Development and Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL). The project award solidifies AESL’s leadership in the energy sector and further cements its position as the country’s largest private transmission player. The Khavda IVA Power Transmission Ltd, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) created by RECPDCL, is tasked with evacuating 7 GW of renewable energy (RE) from the Khavda RE park under the Phase IV Part-A package. AESL’s acquisition of this SPV marks a significant step in the project’s execution. The Khavda IVA transmission line, an integral part of India’s National Grid, will facilitate the transfer of 7 GW of renewable energy through 765 kV double circuit lines connecting Khavda to Lakadia and Bhuj in Gujarat. The project also includes establishing a transformation capacity of 4,500 MVA. Khavda, which is set to become the world’s largest renewable energy park with a planned generation capacity of 30 GW, is poised to play a pivotal role in India’s decarbonization efforts. The project’s allocation to AESL is expected to enhance the availability of critical transmission infrastructure needed for the evacuation of clean energy. The Adani Group’s strategic focus on transforming Khavda from a barren landscape into a cornerstone of India’s net-zero aspirations is evident in this initiative. AESL secured the project through a Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process and is committed to commissioning the project within the next 24 months. The project will be developed on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis and maintained by AESL for 35 years. The company plans to invest approximately Rs 4,091 crore in the construction of the 298 km (596 ckm) transmission project, which includes the installation of a 300 MVAr STATCOM, three 1500 MVA, 765/400 kV Inter-connecting Transformers (ICTs), and associated bus reactors. Speaking on the project, Kandarp Patel, CEO of AESL, highlighted the importance of robust and future-ready power evacuation infrastructure for Khavda. “This investment is crucial for establishing the transmission network needed to evacuate the planned 30 GW of green power from Khavda and will significantly contribute to grid stability. AESL is honored to be part of this initiative, which will play a vital role in ensuring the seamless flow of green energy into the national grid, furthering India’s progress towards its net-zero goals,” he said. The Khavda project underscores AESL’s commitment to advancing India’s renewable energy capabilities and represents a significant milestone in the country’s energy transition.
