Investigation into 20 August incident at onshore substation remains ongoing
Hai Long Offshore Wind has confirmed there has been at least one fatality following a 20 August gas leak at the onshore substation for the 1GW Hai Long offshore wind farm in Taiwan.
"We extend our sincerest condolences to all the injured and their families, and we express our deepest sadness for the loss of life," Hai Long said, and added that it will provide the necessary support to the families.
The company also said that both it and its onshore substation contractor TECO Electric & Machinery will continue to actively cooperate with the relevant authorities and judicial bodies in conducting a comprehensive investigation.
"Hai Long Project once again expresses deepest regards and support for those affected by this incident and their families and we remain committed to ensuring that all project staff have a safe and secure working environment in all our operations, with the aim of preventing similar incidents from happening again," the company said.
On 20 August, 17 workers were affected, and several hospitalised, following a suspected leak from a carbon dioxide cylinder.
While the details of the incident remain under investigation, the company said the preliminary information available cited a leak of carbon dioxide from the fire suppression system. |
