Recently, Mumbai Port unveiled a series of major initiatives and signed investment proposals totaling ?4,000 crore, focusing on sustainability and green fuel. These projects are projected to create 1.45 lakh person-days of employment, according to the port authority.
The Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed during a visit by Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal. One MoU was established between Mumbai Port Authority, Mumbai Port Sustainability Foundation (MPSF), and HPCL to develop a green fuel ecosystem. Another MoU was signed with Det Norske Veritas (DNV) for collaboration on emission management, decarbonization, digitization, and safety in port and shipping operations. DNV, based in Norway, specializes in quality management, risk assessment, and sustainability services.
During his visit, Sonowal virtually inaugurated several key projects, including testing operations for the new third chemical berth at Pir Pau jetty. He also inaugurated an automation system and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) at the Marine Oil Terminal and MPSF. Additionally, Sonowal laid the foundation for the shore protection and reclamation project at Jawahar Dweep.
The ministers visit also saw the handover of land transfer documents for various leasing agreements. These included leases for two plots to Mahanagar Gas Nigam Ltd and two plots at Pir Pau to Aegis Logistics for liquid bulk storage. The renewal of leases for Mazagaon Dock Shipbuilders and others was also completed.
The initiatives and agreements announced are part of a broader investment effort that is expected to significantly benefit Mumbai while generating substantial employment opportunities. |
