Three communities in Nigeria, one without electricity for more than a century, have been provided with solar hybrid mini-grid systems.
The countrys Rural Electrification Agency (REA) commissioned the mini-grids over a three-day period.
"In the last 72 hours, the REA has commissioned a total additional mini-grid capacity of 240kWp across three previously unserved communities across Nigeria in line with the Agencys accelerated approach to powering Nigeria, one community at a time/ the Agency said on Tuesday, 20 August.
Three days, three solar systems
On 17 August, the REA commissioned a 40kWp solar hybrid mini-grid at Rafinzurfi Village, Gwagwalada, through the Rural Electrification Fund (REF). This community in Abuja has been without electricity for over 100 years.
Two days later, the Agency commissioned a lOOkWp solar hybrid mini-grid in Oloyan in Edo State, a community popular for its agricultural activities, especially oil palm processing.
On the same day, it also commissioned a lOOkWp solar hybrid mini-grid in Sule-Camp, equally popular for palm oil processing and other agricultural activities in Edo State.
Sule-Camp is a previously un-electrified community and has been in existence for over 30 years. |
