This was announced by Lithium Argentina, which confirmed that in the second quarter of this year it produced approximately 5,600 tons of lithium carbonate, 24% more than in the first quarter.
Announcing second quarter financial and operational results for the Caucharí-Olaroz project located in the Susques department, Jujuy province, the mining company Lithium Argentina said that the deposit produced approximately 5,600 tons of lithium carbonate, 24% more than in the first three months of the year.
Caucharí-Olaroz is reportedly currently operating at around 70% of its capacity, which is designed to produce 40,000 tonnes per year.
Production during the second quarter of 2024 averaged approximately 99.5% lithium carbonate content.
During this start-up phase, production has been sold primarily to Ganfeng Lithium, its partner in the project. The quality of lithium carbonate produced during the second quarter averaged 99.5% content, and processing costs are expected to reduce as quality improves.
“We are very pleased with the progress made at Caucharí-Olaroz in recent months,” said Sam Pigott, President and CEO of Lithium Argentina.
“We are prioritizing maintaining consistent production volumes at these higher rates, which should continue to drive down costs,” he said, adding: “The operation is running at around 70% of its capacity on a sustained basis and has achieved record monthly production in each of the last three months.”
He also expressed optimism about what he considered “the improvement of Argentina’s financial outlook.” In this regard, he assured that “the efforts to promote foreign investment should serve as a supportive context as we continue to advance in the implementation of the battery quality plant in Cauchari-Olaroz to become one of the largest sources of lithium carbonate worldwide.” |
