Work Detail Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded two contracts for CRL2 (the Cross Island Line Phase) totalling USD 443 million which include the final civil contract and a separate contract for the CRL’s power supply system. The civil contract for the design and construction of tunnels between Maju station (CR16) and Clementi station (CR17) was awarded to Sinohydro Corporation Limited, the Singapore Branch. Valued at around SGD 199 million (USD 147.1 million), this contract completes LTA’s appointment of contractors for the nine civil contracts for CRL2. The twin bored tunnels, each extending 1.4 km between CR16 and CR17, will be constructed beneath key infrastructure such as the Sungei Ulu Pandan canal. The ground conditions in this area predominantly consist of hard sedimentary rock, for which a slurry tunnel boring machine will be used to construct the tunnels. Real-time monitoring and safety measures will be implemented during the tunnelling works. LTA and the contractors will closely monitor the works and implement necessary mitigation measures to ensure ground stability as well as safe and timely completion, while minimising any impact on nearby stakeholders and infrastructure. The construction works are expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2024 and passenger service for CRL Phase 2 is targeted to commence in 2032. Sinohydro Corporation Limited previously constructed Napier station on the Thomson-East Coast Line and is currently involved in the construction of CRL Phase 1 Pasir Ris East station, as well as in the construction of CRL Phase 2 Clementi station via a joint venture. Siemens Mobility and Concord Corporation consortium was awarded the contract for the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of the power supply system for the CRL. The contract worth SGD 400 million (USD 295.8 million). Besides the 66kV and 22kV AC systems, the traction power supply system will also be designed for 1500V DC to meet the operational requirement for the high-capacity CRL. Siemens Mobility previously completed the power supply systems for the Downtown Line (DTL), and is currently implementing the power supply systems for the Downtown Line 3 Extension (DTL3e), Circle Line 6 (CCL6), North East Line Extension (NELe) and the Jurong Region Line (JRL). The company has also been awarded the contract for the CRL overhead conductor rail system, which supplies traction power to the trains. Concord Corporation is also the current consortium partner with Siemens Mobility for JRL’s power supply system. Concord was previously involved in the installation of power supply system for Circle Line and the power supply system replacement and upgrading works on the North-South and East-West Lines. Cross Island Line Phase 2 covers the construction of a 15 km line with six new underground stations and will be added to the phase one of the line which will be 29 km with 12 stations. currently, studies are developed for the third phase of the CRL.
