Work Detail Network Rail has announced the contracts as part of the new Scotland Civils Framework – a Lot-based agreement between the company and each of the contractors.Five organisations will receive a share of up to GBP 1.3 billion worth of contracts to keep Scotland’s Railway safe and reliable for the next five years. Taziker Industrial, AmcoGiffen, STORY and QTS have been awarded work, while VolkerRail will get its first ever major contract on Scotland’s Railway. Network Rail contracts The contracts will fund buildings, civils, structures, earthworks, drainage, renewals, and enhancement projects across the country. This includes: Lot A – minor civils up to GBP 150m to Taziker Industrial Lot B – buildings and civils up to GBP 730m to AmcoGiffen and Story Lot C – geotechnical and minor civils up to GBP 420m to QTS VolkerRail, which regularly completes projects on the network in England and Wales, will deliver up to GBP 150m of signalling, power and communications works. Each of the contracts are for five years, with a three-year extension option based on performance. “We’re investing up to GBP 1.3bn in these framework contracts to maintain and improve our infrastructure across Scotland. The awarding of these contracts will help us continue to deliver a railway that is safe and reliable for passengers and freight. We’re excited to once again be partnering with Taziker, AmcoGiffen, STORY and QTS and we’re looking forward to welcoming VolkerRail on to Scotland’s Railway family,” said Liam Sumpter, managing director, Network Rail Scotland/ Niall McCreanor, director of specialist businesses, VolkerRail, said: “VolkerRail has extensive experience in signalling, telecoms and power renewals, and enhancements, and we have spent considerable time building our presence in Scotland to better understand the needs of Scotland’s railway, to ensure we can provide the best possible service.” “We look forward to working collaboratively with Network Rail and Scotland’s Railway to deliver efficient outputs in line with their key strategic themes.” Taziker will deliver general civils renewals projects including preventative structural repairs and culvert renewals. This includes completing metalwork repairs and scour protection at Findhorn Viaduct on the Aberdeen to Inverness line in 2027. This will provide future resilience to climate change and the risk of flood related scour issues. STORY and AmcoGiffen will deliver major civil renewal works on structures, including tunnels, underbridges and coastal defences (walls). This will include AmcoGiffen assessing and repairing 3.75 miles of coastal protection between Kincardine and Torryburn along the River Forth. It will also include STORY carrying out a scour protection programme on Fillan Viaduct, on the West Highland Line. QTS will complete vital geotechnical and drainage renewal and refurbishment works to improve the condition of these assets while combating the impact of climate change. Work will include completing earth works and track drainage improvements near Cumbernauld, as well as upgrading on-track and off-track drainage on the PMT line near Falkirk.
