Work Detail |
Construction of a 1,355-meter storm drain on Sagrada Familia Avenue that will solve historical flooding problems.
The investment of $2.554 million will improve the quality of life in the neighborhoods of Las Dalias, Las Violetas, Las Palmas, Ampliación Las Palmas, Uritorco, Villa Siburu, San Salvador and Villa Alberdi.
The works will begin in September.
The mayor of the city of Córdoba, Daniel Passerini, signed the contract that will allow the construction of a storm drain on Av. Sagrada Familia and will bring benefits to residents of eight neighborhoods in the western part of the city.
There are more than 1.3 kilometers of underground conduits that will be established between the Suquía River and Duarte Quirós Street. It will improve traffic and prevent flooding in the neighborhoods of Las Dalias, Las Violetas, Las Palmas, Las Palmas Extension, Uritorco, San Salvador, Villa Siburu and Villa Alberdi.
The image of a car being dragged by the water currents during the storm last February was well-known. The drain will effectively manage the runoff and minimize the risk of flooding in the area.
"This project requires a significant investment, but the most important thing will be the solutions that it will bring to a sector that historically suffers the consequences of the rains: these are works that the city needs," said Passerini in front of representatives of the neighborhood centers of the eight neighborhoods and those attending the contract signing ceremony.
“And I want to reinforce my words: it is not an expense made by the Municipality, it is an investment, because it will transform the life of these places. It is a public work that the State has to do by obligation, because it is a need of the people. In times when numbers are talked about, we continue to speak to the citizens of Córdoba,” said the mayor.
At the same time, the Secretary of Urban Development, Diego Peralta, said: “The area of ??direct impact will be Av. Sagrada Familia, Av. Colón, Costanera and Duarte Quirós Street; in addition to institutions such as the Manuel Pizarro school, concessionaires and the Instituto Modelo de Cardiología. The work will prevent flooding and guarantee road and pedestrian safety, in addition to reducing environmental impacts.”
The Minister of Infrastructure and Public Services of the Province of Córdoba, Fabián López, also took part in the announcement.
The entire project includes 38 drains, 1,215 linear metres of 1,400-millimetre concrete conduits, 140 metres of reinforced concrete trapezoidal conduits and roadway refurbishment.
The investment exceeds $2.554 million.
The drainage system will prevent the deterioration of the street and reduce its maintenance costs, making Av. Sagrada Familia a friendlier artery for pedestrians and drivers, with a safe mobility environment.
In this way, it will provide greater access not only to residents, but also to merchants from the many establishments that serve the sector: automotive, spare parts factories, shoe stores, butcher shops, greengrocers, bakeries, paint shops, restaurants, among others.
It will be especially useful for those who wish to arrive at the Instituto Modelo de Cardiología.
The work will be carried out by the company AnkaLoo Construcciones.
The completion period is 270 days and work will begin in September.
