The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) has introduced the Peer-to-Peer Solar Energy Transaction Regulations 2024, allowing consumers to engage in net or gross metering for solar rooftop photovoltaic (SRTPV) projects. Effective upon gazette publication, these regulations facilitate P2P energy transactions through blockchain or similar platforms. Prosumers can sell excess energy directly or to distribution licensees if no buyers are available. Compliance with KERC standards, transparent procedures, and smart meters is required for participation. Further directions may be issued for implementation.
