The Indian government is enhancing its support for renewable energy projects across various sectors, including providing financial aid to Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). This initiative aims to boost the adoption of solar energy and support farmers with solar agricultural pumps.
In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State for New & Renewable Energy, highlighted several key programs:
PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana: This scheme offers financial assistance for installing rooftop solar power projects. It is open to all individuals, including SCs and STs, enabling them to harness solar energy for their residential needs.
PM KUSUM Scheme: Farmers, including those from SC and ST communities, can receive support for standalone solar pumps and the solarization of grid-connected agricultural pumps. The scheme includes a significant subsidy component, with detailed criteria for installation based on the geographic location and existing infrastructure.
PM JANMAN Scheme: Under this initiative, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is working to electrify un-electrified households in Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) areas. This program provides off-grid solar systems to communities where grid electricity is either unavailable or not feasible.The government’s efforts include a range of incentives detailed in the accompanying annexure:
PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana offers varying levels of Central Financial Assistance (CFA) based on residential segment and location.
PM KUSUM Scheme provides subsidies for both standalone solar pumps and the solarization of existing grid-connected pumps, with enhanced support for remote and less developed regions.
