Shri Raj Kumar Chaudhary, a seasoned civil engineer with over three decades of experience in the hydroelectric power sector, has been appointed Chairman & Managing Director of NHPC Limited. At 59 years old, Shri Chaudhary brings a wealth of expertise to the role, having joined NHPC in 1989 as a Probationary Executive (Civil) at the Koel Karo Hydro-Electric Project in Jharkhand.
Shri Chaudhary’s career trajectory at NHPC has seen him rise through various key positions, including his previous role as Director (Technical). His extensive experience spans across multiple departments and projects, including Cost Engineering, Design & Engineering, and major hydroelectric construction projects both in India and Bhutan. Notable projects under his purview include the Koel Karo, Kalpong, Teesta-V, and Subansiri Lower HEPs, as well as Mangdechhu and Punatsangchhu-II HEPs in Bhutan.
A standout achievement in Shri Chaudhary’s career was his leadership in the Kalpong HE Project, completed 16 months ahead of schedule despite the project’s challenging location on a remote island in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. His contributions have been pivotal in the successful commissioning of the Teesta-V HE Project (510 MW) in Sikkim and the Mangdechhu HE Project (720 MW) in Bhutan. He also played a key role in the repair of the HRT for the 1020 MW Tala HEP Project in Bhutan.
In addition to his new role, Shri Chaudhary serves as a Nominee Director at Ratle Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited. His appointment as Chairman & Managing Director marks a new chapter in NHPC’s leadership, underscoring the company’s commitment to leveraging his extensive experience in hydroelectric power development. |
