Amphenol Industrial Operations, an interconnect systems specialist, introduced its RadCrimp for 8~6 American Wire Gage (AWG), as the latest installment in its series of solar splice connectors. The new product, developed in partnership with Melni Technologies, was devised to improve crimp reliability in the field, while helping to reduce the amount of failures that are directly related to improper cable crimping.
“Proper solar connector crimping can take a lot of precise work and could lead to costly and dangerous malfunctions, if installed even slightly incorrectly,” said Mark Cunningham, GM of Amphenol. “The RadCrimp eliminates the anxiety and potential hazards that come with connector installation. Our product gives solar operators the peace of mind that their solar power system is securely equipped with high quality connectors that aren’t at risk of malfunction or decay.”
Amphenol’s RadCrimp series is made for new solar PV installations, field retrofits and repairs in solar installations, and any other field terminations requiring a reliable sealed power connection.
The RadCrimp eliminates the crimping process and the need for specialized crimping tools, using patented Dual Helix Spiral Termination technology. RadCrimp is certified according to UL 6703 and IEC 62852 standards for 1500 VDC, making it suitable for high-voltage solar energy applications.
It’s compatible with a range of photovoltaic wire sizes, from 8 AWG (50A) to 6 AWG (65A) and 12 AWG (20A) to 10 AWG (30A), making it viability for various solar installations and configurations. The RadCrimp has IP68 sealing, ensuring that connectors are safeguarded against dust ingress and water immersion.
“Partnering with Amphenol on the RadCrimp solar connector series has brought about incredibly fruitful results, as our Spiral Termination Technology is well-suited to address the key crimping and installation issues that frequently plague solar power system installers,” said Mark Melni, owner and inventor of Melni Technologies. |
