Work Detail Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEML), a leader in India’s electric vehicle (EV) market, has announced a new collaboration with Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL), a key player in the country’s renewable energy sector. This partnership aims to enhance zero-emissions mobility by integrating EVs with solar rooftop systems. Under this collaboration, TPEML customers will be able to install solar rooftop systems through TPREL. The two companies will also jointly promote both EVs and solar rooftop solutions to increase awareness of their combined benefits. Electric Vehicles and solar power systems are crucial components in India’s strategy to achieve Net Zero emissions. The Indian government has supported the adoption of EVs through various initiatives, and the newly launched PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is set to provide subsidized solar rooftop installations to 10 million households. The integration of EVs with solar rooftop systems offers several advantages, including: Reduced total cost of ownership for EVs. Lower electricity bills for EV users. Accelerated payback period for solar rooftop owners who purchase EVs. Provision of 100% emissions-free power for EVs.Additionally, combining solar rooftops with EVs helps decouple vehicle emissions from the grid mix, offering a faster route to Net Zero emissions for the transportation sector. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., commented, “Achieving India’s Net Zero goals requires a shift to EVs and renewable energy. By partnering with Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd., we aim to democratize zero-emissions mobility, reduce EV running costs, and enhance the adoption of solar rooftop systems among our customers. With over 90% of EV owners using home charging and nearly 30% already utilizing solar rooftops, this collaboration aligns perfectly with our goals.” Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD of Tata Power, added, “The combination of solar rooftops and EVs offers a promising and cost-effective solution for India. Both technologies appeal to eco-conscious and value-driven customers. We are thrilled to work with Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. to boost the adoption of these technologies and provide customers with an opportunity to reduce emissions while saving money.” Tata Power is actively promoting solar rooftop adoption through its nationwide ‘GharGharSolar, Tata Power ke Sangh’ campaign. The company plans to expand its reach through a network of over 700 channel partners and retailers. Tata Power has already installed 101,924 home chargers and 5,600 public chargers across India. With its extensive EV charging network of 5,600 public points, Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. is well-positioned to provide solar-powered charging solutions across various locations, including highways, hotels, malls, offices, hospitals, and residential complexes. This strategic placement supports the acceleration of e-mobility adoption throughout the country.
