Work Detail The State of Maryland has received $4.7 million in federal funding to provide training and job placement to grow its offshore wind workforce. The funding was made possible through the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration Good Jobs Challenge. “Maryland is serious about offshore wind, and not just because of what it means for our environment, but also because of what it means for our economy,” says Maryland governor Wes Moore. “Investments in offshore wind will help us create jobs, raise wages and grow wealth for Maryland families. We thank the Biden-Harris administration for their continued partnership in this vital push to make Maryland more competitive for all.” The new grant opportunity is a part of the Maryland Department of Labor’s Maryland Works for Wind initiative. The department’s request for proposals is open. Accepted grantees will provide workforce training, supportive services and job placement assistance in occupations that support the offshore wind industry. Applications are due Oct. 7. Grants are set to begin in January.
