Work Detail Karnataka Minister for Infrastructure M.B. Patil announced on Monday that seven locations have been shortlisted for Bengalurus proposed second airport. A meeting with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is scheduled for Tuesday to discuss submitting an application to the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Patil revealed that consultations with the Infrastructure Development Corporation (Karnataka) Limited (IDeCK) and global consulting firm BCG (Boston Consulting Group) took place earlier in the day. Initially, IDeCK had identified nine potential sites, but two were later excluded due to feasibility issues. BCG representatives provided insights from their experience with the Navi Mumbai airport project, and visual presentations from both entities were reviewed. The application to the AAI will include details on all seven sites, with AAI officials set to visit and evaluate their feasibility. Factors such as passenger density, connectivity, industrial growth, cargo potential, and environmental considerations, including proximity to rivers, hills, and biodiversity, will influence the final decision. Patil emphasized that the site selection will be driven by objective criteria rather than political factors. The decision will adhere to approximately 15 parameters set by the AAI and consider Karnatakas overall development. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar noted that Patil has already conducted multiple meetings with stakeholders regarding the airport project. The government aims to complete the second airport by 2033.
