On Wednesday, Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury called on Railways Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw to prioritize the conversion of the existing single-line track from Agartala to Sabroom into a double line. In his letter, Chowdhury emphasized the critical need for this upgrade, citing delays in both express and local trains due to the current single-track configuration, which also hampers the operation of additional trains and new services.
Chowdhury noted that the existing single-line track from Lumding to Sabroom, passing through Agartala, is a major bottleneck. "One of our key projects is to convert the single-line rail track from Lumding to Sabroom via Agartala to double line. The single track delays both express and local trains and restricts our capacity to run more trains or introduce new services," the letter stated.
He also mentioned that Chief Minister Manik Saha has previously sought support to address this issue. The Northeastern Frontier Railway has indicated that the Final Location Survey (FLS) for doubling the track from Chandranathpur in Assam to Agartala is underway.
Chowdhury underscored the importance of the Agartala-Sabroom rail line for enhancing trade and connectivity with other Northeastern states and Bangladesh. He urged the Railways Minister to expedite the project by instructing relevant officials to complete the FLS and commence the double-line work for both the Agartala-Sabroom route and the Chandranathpur to Agartala stretch as soon as possible. |
