Work Detail Ocean Winds, an offshore wind player created as a 50-50 joint venture by EDP Renewables and Engie, has formed a strategic partnership with Martifer Renewables & Energy to jointly participate in Portugal’s first tender for offshore wind farms set for later this year. This collaboration brings together Ocean Winds’ experience in developing and operating offshore wind farms including the WindFloat Atlantic floating offshore wind farm in Portugal with Martifer Renewable & Energy’s knowledge of the Portuguese market. The partnership aims to contribute to Portugal’s renewable energy targets of 2 GW by 2030, aligned with the energy and climate plans of the European Union. As the industry anticipates the final criteria for the tender, Ocean Winds and Martifer are preparing comprehensive proposals, including with key national suppliers and infrastructures. Two more companies have recently entered into an offshore wind partnership in the same region. Namely, Repsol and EDF Renewables signed an exclusivity agreement to collaborate on future offshore wind tenders in Spain and Portugal. The two countries located on the Iberian Peninsula are recognised for their substantial growth potential in the renewable energy sector. Renewable generation projects are a key component of Repsol’s transition to cleaner energy sources. It will be investing between €3bn and €4bn ($3.25bn and $4.33bn) net by 2027 to expand its renewable project portfolio which it hopes will be between 9GW and 10GW by then, with half of this capacity located in the Iberian Peninsula and 30% in the US.
