Work Detail Offshore drilling giant Transocean has secured more work for two of its drillships in the US Gulf of Mexico and Brazil. The New York-listed contractor revealed in its latest fleet status report that the Deepwater Atlas drillship was awarded two firm contracts by Beacon Offshore. The ultra-deepwater drillship started working for Beacon in the US Gulf of Mexico under a new deal which started this month and is set to end in July 2025 under a dayrate of $455,000. The first extension is a four-well deal from July 2025 to February 2026 for $505,000 per day. This contract comes with contingencies to perform three completions at the same dayrate between February and June 2026. The other extension is for an even higher dayrate of $580,000 and is for two wells, also in the US Gulf of Mexico. This deal also comes with contingencies to perform two 20K completions at a dayrate of $650,000 from November 2026 to January 2027. The other drillship to get a deal is the Deepwater Mykonos which has been working for Petrobras in Brazil since October 2023. According to the driller’s fleet status report, Petrobras exercised a 279-day option at a current dayrate of $366,000 and the 2011-built rig will remain with the Brazilian company until October 2025. During the quarter, Transocean also won deals for the Deepwater Asgard, Deepwater Invictus, Transocean Norge, Transocean Spitsbergen, and Transocean Endurance which added around $656m to the backlog. As of July 24, 2024, the company’s total backlog is approximately $8.8bn.
