UK offshore contractor Rovco has been selected by Flotation Energy and Vårgrønn joint venture to conduct a site survey for Green Volt floating offshore wind farm, located 80km east of Peterhead in Scotland.
The contract with an undisclosed value covers geophysical surveys in the wind farm array area, offshore and nearshore export cable corridors, shallow piezocone penetration test (PCPT) and vibrocoring.
The data collected utilising the survey vessel Glomar Supporter will inform the anchor design for the project’s floating turbines.
The Green Volt is scheduled to be fully operational in 2029. The development is set to become one of the world’s largest offshore floating wind farms with up to 35 turbines providing up to 560MW of renewable energy capacity. The project has the potential to generate enough green power to electrify several oil and gas platforms in the Outer Moray Firth and reduce CO2 emissions by 1m tons per year. |
