Work Detail |
In April of this year, Copec acquired the Granja Solar photovoltaic park, with a generation capacity of 123 MWp and located in the Tarapacá region.
Chilean Petroleum Company Copec and Transelec, Chiles largest transmission company, announced an agreement to develop their first large-scale storage system at the Granja Solar photovoltaic park, located in the commune of Pozo Almonte, Tarapacá Region.
This is a battery system with a storage capacity of 420 MWh and an injection power of 105 MW, which will be operated by Transelec, and will hybridize the 123 MWp Granja Solar photovoltaic project.
This system will initially be integrated into the Granja Solar substation via a 33 kV transmission line. It will then use an existing 220 kV line to the Lagunas substation, owned by Transelec, ensuring efficient integration with the SEN.
According to both companies, this system will allow the storage and injection of energy into the National Electric System (SEN) each year equivalent to the electricity consumption of more than 60 thousand homes.
In April of this year, Copec acquired the Granja Solar photovoltaic park in the context of the Bankruptcy Liquidation Procedure of the María Elena Solar SA Economic Unit, the electrical substation and the 23.4 km electrical transmission line that connects said plant to the National Electric System.
The project is carried out under a long-term BOOT contract, being pioneers in Chile in using this model, which implies that, during the 20-year duration of the contract, Transelec will be responsible for the operation and management of the storage system, guaranteeing its optimal functioning and its contribution to the national energy supply, and then transferring the asset to Copec after the term has ended.
Copec Emoac, the subsidiary responsible for marketing the energy generated by Granja Solar, will also be responsible for selling the stored energy once the project comes into operation during the first quarter of 2026. |
