Work Detail The film has special microstructures that effectively couple incident light and thus eliminate the glare effect of solar modules. The German company Phytonics sells the self-adhesive film, which can be used for new and existing photovoltaic systems, in sheets and rolls. The glare effect of solar modules is a constant source of dispute between neighbours. At airports, transport routes or nature reserves, special requirements are also imposed on solar modules to ensure that they do not dazzle neighbours. Solar modules are usually coated with an anti-reflective coating. However, according to the Karlsruhe-based technology company Phytonics, this is not suitable for preventing glare from solar modules. The anti-reflective coating usually only serves to increase the performance of the modules. Phytonics has now developed a self-adhesive film designed to reduce the glare effect of modules to the necessary extent. It features special bionic microstructures. These ensure that even very flat incident light is effectively coupled, the company explains. This not only makes the modules glare-free, but also increases their performance during off-peak hours. According to Phytonics, the film is made exclusively from materials that have already proven their long-term stability over many years of outdoor use. The film is therefore resistant to influences such as UV radiation, moisture, heat and hail. The film can now be ordered directly from the company in rolls or sheets. Initially, the film will be available for 70 euros per module. The price development in the future will depend on several factors, as the company emphasises. The company sees a high demand for its flexible anti-glare solution, which extends to all photovoltaic segments. “We receive enquiries every day, often due to neighbourhood disputes, but also regularly from project planners for photovoltaic systems near motorways and airports,” says Ruben Hünig, Managing Director of Phytonics. The film is also a simple solution against critical glare effects, without having to realign modules or take other complex privacy protection measures. The self-adhesive film is already in use. In Switzerland, for example, it was applied to modules in a house whose photovoltaic system was dazzling the neighbours opposite. It will soon also be used on the roof of a supermarket in Essen. The building permit was linked to the use of anti-glare solar modules. Phytonics emphasises that the self-adhesive film can be used on both new and existing photovoltaic systems.
