The Tamaya BESS project, with a capacity of 68 MW / 418 MWh, is at 60% progress, while the Capricorn BESS (48 MW / 264 MWh) is at 30%.
The Chilean headquarters of the French multinational Engie is developing and building storage system projects based on Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) technology in the country.
One of them is BESS Tamaya (68 MW/418 MWh), located where the companys former diesel power plant once operated, thus giving the site a new lease of life.
Through 152 containers, this park will store the energy generated by the Tamaya Solar Plant (114 MW) , also owned by the company. Tamaya, which deploys 551,000 solar panels, began injecting into the grid in December 2021 , and in February 2022 began its commercial operation.
Today, BESS Tamaya has reached 60% progress. Among its main achievements in the construction phase are 100% assembly of the prefabricated foundations and 100% assembly of the batteries. Now, among the next steps are the assembly and connection of the electrical rooms and the start of the cold commissioning phase .
BESS Tamaya, which began construction in the first week of August 2023, will have 152 containers that use a lithium battery-based solution developed by Sungrow Power Supply.
In the case of BESS Capricornio (48 MW / 264 MWh), which is located at the Capricornio Solar Plant (88 MWac) - also owned by the company - its construction began in February of this year.
The project is currently in the civil and electrical works phase and has an overall progress of 30%. The installation of the works and the assembly of the prefabricated foundations of the batteries have already been completed.
In April, Engie inaugurated the 139 MW / 638 MWh BESS Coya storage project, also in Chile.
Engie Chile currently has 2.6 GW of installed capacity, of which 900 MW correspond to renewable energy. The company aims to reach 2 GW in 2028, for which it will make an investment amounting to 1.8 billion dollars. |
