DESNZ Secretary of State to carefully consider cash pot for critical renewables auction
Energy Secretary Ed Miliband is to consider increasing the £1bn Allocation Round 6 budget.
A spokesperson for his department DESNZ said: “Applications for Allocation Round 6 are currently being assessed and the Secretary of State will then carefully consider whether to increase the budget.”
Subscriber-only reNEWS last week reported offshore wind executives are growing increasingly confident of a boost to the £800m allocated to Pot 3 following engagements with Labour officials.
More than 10GW of capacity is eligible to enter the Pot 3 race this year, however, less than half of that is expected to be successful under the existing parameters.
The industry has been calling for a substantial increase to the budget for months as capex prices remain stubbornly high.
The DESNZ said: “We recognise the importance of offshore wind in making Britain a clean energy superpower, growing our economy and tackling climate change.”
Onshore wind, floating wind and solar developers are also seeking increases to the budgets for Pot 1 and Pot 2.
The spokesman added: “Investing in clean power will cut bills and make Britain energy independent, which is why we will double onshore wind, treble solar and quadruple offshore wind by 2030.” |
