Atlas Renewable Energy and Sungrow agree to supply the project being developed in the Antofagasta region, presented as the largest independent large-scale energy storage plant in the country.
Atlas Renewable Energy, a renewable energy company owned by UK fund Actis, and Sungrow, a Chinese PV inverter and energy storage system company, have agreed to supply Sungrows PowerTitan liquid cooled storage system for the 200MW/880MWh Desert BESS project in the María Elena commune, Antofagasta region.
The company said in a statement that the project is being built in the Atacama Desert under conditions “that include a lot of dust and extreme temperature fluctuations exceeding 30ºC.”
“To ensure the long-term stability of the Desert BESS,” it added, “PowerTitan features C5 corrosion resistance, IP65 wind and sand protection, intelligent liquid cooling, and an intelligent operation and maintenance (O&M) system, which ensures optimal temperature control and stability.”
Atlas assures that BESS del Desierto will be one of the largest energy storage projects in Chile and Latin America, with an installed capacity of 200 MW and four hours of discharge, and a storage capacity of 800 MWh. |
