Work Detail The Spanish Railway Infrastructure Administrator Adif is giving a new boost to the modernisation of the conventional Ourense-Vigo railway line, the so-called Miño Line, by mobilising 48.8 million euros of investment in two projects to renew the section between Vigo Guixar and Redondela (13 km). Adif has put out to tender the track renewal of this route, with work on the stations of Redondela and Vigo Guixar, the Chapela stop and the Vigo tunnel (1 km), along with other structures. The investment for these works is estimated at 36.5 million euros. In addition, the company has contracted, for an amount of 12.3 million euros, the adaptation of the signalling of the section to the upcoming modernisation of its electrification and its integration into the remote and real-time traffic management system. Improvements to the stations of Redondela, Vigo Guixar and Chapela At Redondela station, a new central platform will be built, its length will be extended and the height of the rest will be increased, connecting all with a new underpass. These works complete those currently being contracted to reinforce the station’s accessibility, with an investment of 3.6 million. At Vigo-Guixar station, new, higher-performance sidings (devices for trains to move from one track to another) will be installed and the platform at the head of the tracks will be extended to allow the arrival and departure of trains of more than 600 m. In the Chapela district, a new railway station will be built, with a 220 m platform, in a location close to a car park and a pedestrian walkway over the tracks. This will improve the mobility conditions of citizens and the integration of the railway into the environment. The investments are completed with actions in the Vigo tunnel, from the reinforcement of its waterproofing, lining and drainage, to the adaptation of its gauge to the future new electrification; as well as with improvements in embankments, excavations, drainage and other infrastructures. As for the contracted signalling works, the digital Asfa system, LED signals and new interlockings (a device that remotely manages signals on a railway section), track circuits (a system that detects the presence of a train on a section) and other equipment will be deployed. They will also be integrated into the centralised traffic control (CTC) for the remote and real-time management of the line’s traffic. These operations will be carried out by the joint venture made up of Enyse and Teléfonos, Líneas y Centrales. A 265 million euro renovation Adif is making progress in the modernisation of the so-called Miño Line, including the Guillarei-Portuguese border connection, to which it is allocating 265 million euros with the aim of adapting it to the requirements of the Atlantic Corridor and strengthening the connection with Portugal, thus boosting passenger and freight traffic. Adif has already completed the renovation of the line’s platform, the electrification of the Guillarei-Tui section and the extension to 750 m of the As Gándaras platforms. In addition, it has launched the contracting process for the track renovation of the Redondela-Guillarei section. These actions contribute to SDGs 9 (promoting reliable, sustainable and quality infrastructure), 7 (sustainability) and 8 (economic development and job creation). European funding This action has European funding through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. Financed by the European Union-NextGenerationEU.
