The redevelopment of Nagpur railway station is progressing smoothly and is anticipated to meet its scheduled completion by December next year, according to the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA). Upon completion, the station will accommodate up to 98,000 passengers daily.
"The project has achieved 33% completion after completing all preparatory work and utility relocations at the site. Construction activities on both the eastern and western sides of the station are proceeding as planned, with the project slated for completion by December 2025," stated RLDA.
The revamped Nagpur railway station is designed with a capacity to handle 98,000 daily passengers. It will feature segregated areas for arrivals and departures, separate Foot Over Bridges (FOBs), and a spacious 108-meter-wide concourse with a roof plaza offering various amenities and retail options.
"The temporary new booking counter is ready for relocation. However, to minimize passenger inconvenience, the relocation will occur only after establishing staircase connections to the South FOB on platform 8," the statement added.
On the western side, the station will include a departure and arrival plaza (G+2) with a basement parking area spanning 3,420 square meters. It will also feature a well-organized circulating area with designated lanes for taxis, cars, and auto rickshaws, ensuring smooth passenger drop-off and pick-up.
RLDA highlighted that work on platform FOBs and concourse platforms will soon commence, with steelwork fabrication already underway in workshops. This brownfield project is being phased meticulously to avoid disruption to train operations and minimize inconvenience to passengers, while preserving the stations heritage structure. |
