Seven companies submitted bids for the works. The work will improve the water supply for the 2,700 inmates and the entire city.
This week, the Ministers of Public Works, Lisandro Enrico, and Justice and Security, Pablo Cococcioni, led the opening of envelopes with the economic offers for the execution of water supply works in the Coronda Penitentiary Unit. The works, which include the demolition of one of the two old reinforced concrete tank towers, will improve the water supply for the 2,700 inmates.
At the event, which took place in the Auditorium of the Government House in the city of Santa Fe, 7 companies were presented as bidders for the works, which have an updated official budget of $916,476,726.38 and a term of execution of 150 days. In
this regard, Enrico indicated that "this is one of the works that the Minister of Justice and Security of the province of Santa Fe prioritizes as necessary. Based on that, the team of the Secretariat of Public Works began to work on the design of the work, which is not the only one that the minister indicated to us, a new pavilion is also prioritized, but this water infrastructure work was important."
For his part, Cococcioni highlighted the importance of the work: “When we talk about public works in prisons, we emphasize increasing the capacity of accommodation, but these works that complement and support the system are very important. The Coronda prison is the main demander of public services. That is why we want the presence of a security agency to be well received by society and, to do so, we have to take the necessary measures to make it sustainable. Being able to carry out a work that increases the capacity of the flow of drinking water, together with the sewage system, contributes to the prison continuing to be a positive institution in the society that surrounds it and not a source of inconvenience.”
Benefits for the city
For his part, the senator for the San Jerónimo department, Leonardo Diana, stressed that “it is a necessary work. At the time, the prison was far from the urban area, now it is fully integrated and that brings some inconveniences, which can be mitigated. This will bring many benefits, not only for the inmates, but also for the prison workers who spend time there every day and work there.”
Finally, the mayor of Coronda, Ricardo Ramírez, said that “the Penitentiary Service of Coronda is another institution of our town. The city has to live with the services and with the more than 500 visits we have every day. That is why it is necessary to coordinate the works with the provincial government. In this way we will continue working together to improve the quality of life of the residents and give support to the inmates.”

Details of the work
The project involves the construction of infrastructure works for the provision of water for the prison service and the complete demolition of one of the reinforced concrete tank towers, located in the area outside the walls of the Penitentiary Unit towards Belgrano Street.
The tank to be demolished is being replaced by two new elevated reserve tanks with storage capacity adequate to meet the service requirements, located in an area outside the walls at the northwest end of the property.
Along with the new tanks, a new underground cistern will be provided and installed, ensuring that the views are not obstructed for security and surveillance reasons. In the same sector, a new Machine Room will be built to house the pumping system equipment. |
