South African online shopping company Takealot is extending the solar power capacity at its Johannesburg and Cape Town warehouses and distribution hubs.
Work on the grid-tied solar power installations at the Takealot facilities are underway and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2025.
The details were confirmed in parent company Naspers annual results for the year ending 31 March 2024.
"In Johannesburg, solar capacity is expected to increase from 240kWp to 600kWp, and 900kWp of solar capacity will be made available in Cape Town, making these facilities more self-sufficient and sustainable."
New facility to be powered by solar
Takealots under-construction warehouse and distribution centre in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, is expected to be commissioned and operationalised next year.
It will have a 300kWp solar system, harvest rainwater for irrigation and toilets, and use water-saving sanitary ware.
Investec Property announced in February the construction of the state-of-the-art distribution centre forTakealot in KZN.
It is to be located within The Brickworks - a 157-hectare business and logistics park being developed by Investec Property at the regions old Corobrik factory site. |
