Work Detail |
When the long weekend ends and tourists return to their cities of origin, one of the main routes of the province of Buenos Aires towards the Atlantic coast will enter a restoration process in a sensitive point of circulation where traffic will be reduced for the next three months.
Next Monday, the bridge over the Samborombón River on Highway 2, which connects the City of Buenos Aires with Mar del Plata, will begin to be restored, which will result in a reduction in lanes. During the time the work lasts, the road will be widened, and improvements will be made to the lighting and structure of the bridge.
Autopistas de Buenos Aires (Aubasa), the company that has been awarded the concession for the 400-kilometer stretch, announced that the number of lanes will be reduced due to the work that will be carried out “with the main objective of enhancing and expanding the bridge over the Samborombón River.”
The work area will be in the direction of Buenos Aires, at kilometer 92.6, and the measure will be in force until the end of next September when, it is expected, the work will be completed.
The decision to start the restoration on Monday 24th has to do with the intense traffic flow that traveled along Highway 2 throughout the week, with three holidays. Although the work will be in full swing during the winter holidays, it is expected that the impact will be less from Monday when most of the tourists will have already returned home. Many tourists were able to organize themselves to enjoy these last two long weekends, although the first was marked by Fathers Day, and they managed to get nine days out of the city. As of today, this is the last extra-long weekend of the year.
Tourism took to the roads taking advantage of the atypical week with only two working days. Routes 2 and 11 registered intense movement since Wednesday afternoon and the number of vehicles in transit increased as the hours passed.
Aubasa confirmed that on Wednesday evening, more than 1,200 vehicles per hour were traveling towards the Atlantic coast at the Samborombón toll. Then they were distributed among those who continued towards Mar del Plata and those who detoured at the height of Dolores to reach the spas that extend from San Clemente del Tuyú to Santa Clara del Mar, all on Route 11.
In response to the increase in vehicle traffic during the first hours of the long weekend, vehicle restrictions were established for trucks and freight transport in order to clear the route and allow private cars to have a more fluid traffic flow.
The influx of tourists to seaside resorts has increased compared to last weekend and the four days of rest have been a magnet for many tourists. In some towns, hotel and accommodation occupancy has reached 80%.
Other works
On the other hand, the company reported that it continues with the works in the La Plata and Coronel Brandsen districts to install a walkway bridge in the Las Golondrinas neighborhood, at kilometer 53, towards Mar del Plata, as well as the El Chajá area (km 71).
The safety railings and anti-vandalism fences are currently being installed on both walkways. They are 40 metres long over the motorway, plus an eight-metre gradient for ascent and descent. They are two metres wide and fully fenced to prevent vandalism and accidents, and are accessible for people with disabilities. |
